Remy Merkx studied Medicine at Radboud university medical center, Nijmegen and graduated in 2018. He performed his senior clerkship at the intensive care unit and elective clerkships at the anesthesiology and cardiology departments. His scientific internship on ‘Aortic Diameter Growth in Children with a Bicuspid Aortic Valve’ at the pediatric cardiology department was published in The American Journal of Cardiology in 2017 and could not have been established without help from MUSIC colleagues Gert Weijers and Chris de Korte. After graduation he worked as a senior house officer (in Dutch: arts-niet-in-opleiding-tot-specialist) at the cardiology department of Jeroen Bosch Ziekenhuis, ‘s Hertogenbosch. As of November 2018 he is a PhD candidate at the Medical Ultrasound Imaging Centre of the Radboud university medical center, Nijmegen. Together with Livia Kapusta, Chris de Korte, Gert Weijers and Lieke Feijen and Jan Leerink (both AMC) he is working on strain analyses in echocardiography to detect subclinical heart failure in childhood cancer survivors. This study is part of the nationwide DCOG (in Dutch: SKION) LATER study.
