Mechanical characterization of carotid arteries and atheroscleroic plaques has been performed with multiple techniques using different imaging modalities. Chapter 2 reviews current clinically applicable methods used for atherosclerosis and plaque imaging and discusses alternative techniques capable of quantifying the geometry, composition, and mechanical properties which may contain information of plaque vulnerability.
